Africa-Press – Cape verde. The LGBTI Association of Praia, in partnership with ALTIHAY Fuerteventura, LGBTI+ Association of the Canary Islands, promotes today and Wednesday, a training of trainers on diversity education: Transformative Tool for Equality and Respect.
As explained by the president of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersexual Association (LGBTI) – Praia, Sandra Tavares, the training is aimed at teachers, students, government institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and aims to foster understanding of importance of education and training, for LGTBI+ inclusion and social transformation.
On the other hand, it is also intended to promote understanding of the role of families in society, their importance for inclusion and respect for diversity in order to change the mentality of society in general.
“I think we should start with education, because we know that many young people of the LGBTI community who attend school suffer from mistreatment, prejudice, discrimination and bullying, and with that we want to bring support tools that allow them to provide immediate responses to these situations”, he said.
