Africa-Press – Cape verde. The four Cape Verdean boxers qualified for the quarter-finals of the qualification tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games return today to compete in Dakar, Senegal, in this event organized by the Task Force of the International Olympic Committee.

According to the organization, Davilson Morais, the only member of the national team in this competition who has not yet competed, will make his debut this Wednesday afternoon in search of a place in the 92 kg semi-finals.

Nancy Moreira, in the 66 kg, who in her first performance eliminated a boxer from Botswana, returns to the scene, to seek passage to the semi-finals against her competitor from Mozambique, as well as Carina Varela, who is looking for a place in the next phase in the 60 kg, after the victory in the opening round.

Also competing again today is the Cape Verdean boxer residing in France, Bruno Varela, with two victories in as many fights already held in this competition, on Senegalese soil, in the 71 kg. Carina Varela (60 kg) also continues in the competition.

Boxers Israel Nzewi (80 kg), Admilson Carvalho (63.5 kg), Elisandro Silva (57 kg) and Lenick Fernandes (51 kg) fell by the wayside.

The qualification tournament is organized by the Task Force of the International Olympic Committee with a view to qualifying athletes for the biggest world event and takes place from the 9th to the 15th of this month, in Dakar, Senegal.

To guarantee qualification, boxers must win silver or gold medals for women and for men, only gold guarantees qualification.
