Africa-Press – Cape verde. Children in Cabo Verde will now on benefit the right to be registered and issued with a National Identification Card (CNI) as soon as they are born, in hospitals and health centres

According to the Ministry of Justice, Cabo Verde already has a “remarkable track record” in this area with the previous campaign of registration at birth and free CNI up to the age of seven.

The “Campaign for Registration and CNI at Birth” launched today, as explained by Minister Joana Rosa, is nationwide and will allow for two types of registration and the granting of CNI at birth in health services, as part of the modernisation of the justice sector.

For the official, the project was launched today in view of the fact that 16 September is to be institutionalised worldwide as World Identity Day, for whom this is fundamental for children’s lives, for their identities, particularly with regard to issues to do with parenthood and public policies.
