São Vicente: UCID calls for “urgent intervention” by authorities due to “lack of seriousness” and “harmful management” at city council

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID, opposition) today again requested “urgent intervention” from the authorities due to a “lack of seriousness” in the management of public affairs at the City Council of São Vicente

João Santos Luís called the press today and, on the basis of the inspection report, which he showed during the conference, carried out by the Ministry of Finance through its inspectors during Augusto Neves’ 2016-2020 mandate, he said he was still waiting for the position of the Court of Auditors, which “has had the report in its possession since 2021”.

“UCID could perfectly well hand this report over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, but we’re waiting for the final report from the Court of Auditors to be released, which will never come out because Augusto Neves is being protected by the government and other authorities,” he accused.

The leader of the Christian Democrats, after quoting various points and laws from the report, concluded that it was clear that there had been “systematic and deliberate non-compliance with laws”, namely the Public Procurement Code and the Local Authorities Financial Regime during the management of the public purse, as well as “careless management” of municipal assets.
