António Diniz, who was speaking in connection with the “Yellow September” programme, a month of suicide prevention, said that although this year the municipality has not registered any cases, “only attempts”, the number of suicide cases in the municipality has been to increase.
“The situation in the municipality is shocking, in Cabo Verde we have an average of 50 cases of suicide a year and in 2022, in Tarrafal, we registered six cases, which when compared to the number of people is really shocking,” he said.
According to the head of the Ministry of Health in Tarrafal, the centre now has a clinical psychologist and the health structure has seen “an increase” in the number of people seeking mental health services.
