Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean Olympic Committee launches, tomorrow, the 28th, the “first tire” for the construction of its sustainable headquarters, in Achada Grande Trás. The infrastructure will be based on bioconstruction, with most of the materials being recycled, such as tires, and will feature community construction.
This project is a pioneer in Africa, being the first of this concept built by the local community.
It will be located next to the grass field and athletics track already built in the neighborhood and will include community construction. To this end, the Olympic Committee intends to organize training for residents of the neighborhood in bioconstruction, so that they can participate in the construction of the headquarters and then use the same knowledge for their own constructions.
In addition to serving as the administrative headquarters of the COC, the space will have areas with community facilities, which the local population can use for their activities.
Financing
The construction of the Committee’s headquarters will be financed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), through the Association of African National Olympic Committees (ACNOA), as part of a program for special projects aimed at National Olympic Committees.
The launch of the “first tire”, which will be one of the materials used in the construction, will take place at 4:00 pm, and will be attended by representatives of funding organizations, namely the President of ACNOA, Mustafa Berraf and members of the IOC.
