Social worker calls attention of the population of Praia to cases of “many elderly people” who live alone at home

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The social worker and focal point for the Health of the Elderly at the Tira Chapéu Health Centre today called on the population of Praia, especially family members, friends and acquaintances, to pay “more attention” to the elderly who live alone at home.

“The main problem faced by the elderly in city of Praia is that many of them are living alone at home and they often get this issue off their chest at consultations,” Dulcelina Cardoso told the press during the opening ceremony of the intellectual and educational activity aimed at the elderly in Praia to commemorate International Day of the Elderly, which is celebrated annually on 1st October.

In this regard, she took the opportunity to appeal to family members, friends and acquaintances to give more affection, love and care to the elderly, because, as she explained, loneliness “greatly affects their mental health”.

No Dia Internacional do Idoso, em 2021, o ministro da Família e Inclusão Social já tinha abordado esta questão, considerando “preocupante” o facto de Cabo Verde ter cerca de três mil idosos a viverem sozinhos.
