Parliament agitated with political declaration: PAICV accuses Ulisses Correia e Silva's executive of lack of governance and insensitivity

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The PAICV highlighted this Friday, in a political statement that caused some agitation among parliamentarians on the majority bench, the persistence of a crisis scenario that “ insists on persecuting ” the country, pointing to a “ harsh fate ” for Cape Verdeans . The largest Opposition party considered the management of the current MpD Government as the cause of all this, which it characterized as being “ insensitive” , “ unfocused ” and “ disconnected with reality ”.

Parliament agitated with political declaration: PAICV accuses Ulisses Correia e Silva’s executive of lack of governance and insensitivity in the face of the economic and social crisis in the country

Parliament experienced some agitation today with PAICV’s political declaration on the crisis situation in Cape Verde. “ We are going to start a new parliamentary year and, it seems, we are going to do it under the sign of the crisis that insists on persecuting us, leaving deep marks on the body and soul of Cape Verdeans,” stated the deputy and leader of the African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition), Rui Semedo, during a political statement made today at the National Assembly.

Rui Semedo also warned of the “ difficult reality ” faced by the population, marked by a “ significant increase ” in the prices of essential products and goods.

“ This is a tough fate for us to face one of the biggest rises in the prices of essential products and goods without the necessary cushions that should be created by the government to cushion the shocks and impacts on people’s lives,” he stated .

The PAICV leader spared no criticism of the Government, calling into question the effectiveness of government actions in response to the reduction in the population’s purchasing power and the economic crisis that is plaguing the country.

“ This is our ungrateful fate of facing the most drastic decrease in purchasing power, without making the slightest effort from the government to replace income or, at least, trying to balance the efforts of people and families to access the essentials for a life worthy” , he highlighted.

Governance crisis and critical social situation in the country

In an apparent critical escalation, Semedo deepened his observations regarding government performance, highlighting the governance crisis as one of the pressing obstacles.

“ This is our hurtful fate, which forces us to go beyond all bearable limits to face another crisis, perhaps the most serious, which is the crisis of governance ,” he highlighted.

His narrative presented a government described as oblivious to the difficulties and suffering of the Cape Verdean people.

“ In effect, we live in the situation of having a government that is insensitive to people’s problems, a government that is unfocused and disconnected from reality, a government that does not dialogue, a government that does not listen to others, a government that obligingly ignores all criticism , all proposals and all suggestions ”, he stressed.

The deputy also criticized financial management and the alleged inefficiency in the use of public resources, contrasting with the squeeze experienced by ordinary citizens.

“ The crisis is increasing and putting pressure on families to drastically reduce their diet and the government, at another extreme, in another fantasy reality, outside this world of difficulties, fattens its roster and increases public spending,” he said .

Rui Semedo, still in his intervention, placed the executive’s priorities and choices under scrutiny, pointing out a blatant discrepancy between the reality of the people and government actions.

“ The salaries of workers decrease while the government’s tours increase, visibly, in internal and external trips, unnecessary, useless and without any concrete benefit for the people and families of our suffering country”, he noted .

Rui Semedo also expressed a feeling of dismay at the lack of effective measures that could lead to the resolution of the country’s key problems.

“ The governance crisis is noted by the lack of reforms and inappropriate measures that do not contribute to solving the fundamental problems of these islands” , he pointed out.
