Israel: Cape Verdean PR “energetically” condemns Hamas attacks

Africa-Press – Cape verde. I am following with great apprehension the events in the Middle East, following the serious attacks by Hamas on several cities in Israel. I strongly condemn such attacks”, reads the message published this Sunday.

“Violence of this magnitude generates more violence and the conflict can become generalized, deepening chaos in the international arena and bringing enormous damage to humanity”, said José Maria Neves.

The Cape Verdean President says he “looks forward” to the results of meetings of the United Nations Security Council and the Arab League, hoping “that there will be restraint on the part of the parties and emotional intelligence to find a negotiated solution to this decades-long conflict that opposes Palestinians and Israelis.”

On the other hand, 413 Palestinians ncluding many civilians have been killed by Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. Over the past 15 years thousands of Palestinians inlcluding children have been killed by Israeli soldiers.

In the same message, José Maria Neves considers that “the recognition of two independent states, which respect each other and coexist peacefully in the concert of nations, is the possible answer, already outlined in many of the United Nations resolutions”.

On Saturday, in a statement, the Government of Cape Verde also “firmly” condemned the “atrocious attacks” against Israeli territory, calling for an end to hostilities.

The Islamic group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory on Saturday, under the name of operation “Al-Aqsa Storm”, with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.

In response to the surprise attack, Israel bombed several Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip from the air, in an operation it dubbed “Iron Swords”.

The attacks and the military response left hundreds dead and more than a thousand injured.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is “at war” with Hamas.
