Santo Antão: Water and sanitation project “well underway” – infrastructure starts in early 2024
A document about the project, which Inforpress had access to today, indicates that the international competition to carry out the works is in the final stretch and lists a series of infrastructures that Santo Antão will win, over the next three years, with the implementation of the project, which results from a loan agreement between the Government of Cape Verde and the Arab Bank for the Economic Development of Africa (BADEA).
Among the works planned within the scope of the project, we highlight the rehabilitation of water adduction and distribution networks, the construction and rehabilitation of water storage and distribution reservoirs, the installation of water chlorination systems in rural areas, the extension of the sewage network and the construction of water pumping and pumping stations.
The construction of a sewage treatment plant and the construction of family septic tanks in rural areas are other works planned for Santo Antão as part of the project, which, according to the same source, “will bring improvements to the living conditions of people on the island ”.
A mission of consultants hired by the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANAS) visited Santo Antão at the end of September as part of the implementation of this project, launched by the Government.
The visit served to plan work on installing dosing systems to improve the quality of water distributed to homes in various locations on the island.
Later this year, dosers are planned to be installed at eight water points in the towns of Ribeira da Cruz, Alto Mira, Ribeira das Patas, Lajedos, Ponte Sul, Ribeira dos Bodes and Ribeira Fria.
