“Anyone who is not satisfied as a citizen of Cape Verde with the decision of the justice system, can appeal to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights”, explained, according to Lusa, the president, judge Imani Daud Aboud, after being received by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves.

“We are here with the purpose of raising awareness among government officials and citizens about the existence of the court and how to appeal to it, once local resources have been exhausted”, he detailed.

The judge noted with satisfaction the “positive reaction” of the Cape Verdean head of state.

Imani Daud Aboud highlighted the importance of the institution for defending human rights in Africa, showing that it is “ another way to find solutions ”.

According to this newspaper’s source, the delegation visiting Cape Verde includes eight members with a contact agenda for the entire week, focused on publicizing the institution’s procedures.

With permanent headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, the court’s mission is to reinforce the protection mandate of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (of the African Union), as well as compliance with other international instruments.
