Africa-Press – Cape verde. Hundreds of teachers took to the streets of the capital today, demanding everything from the salary scale to the memorandum of understanding, promising not to stop the fight until their rights are safeguarded.

Demonstration/Beach: Teachers promise to fight for their rights, from demonstration to strike to freezing of grades
The demonstration extends to teachers from Santo Antão to Brava, and on each island the concentration was held in the main squares of each municipality.

As explained by the president of the Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sindprof), Lígia Herbert, the general demonstration is to demand everything, from the salary scale to the memorandum of understanding that was not fulfilled.

“The teacher is not just reclassification, the teacher is progression because I am still waiting for a change, teachers earn an unworthy salary, kindergarten teachers, still with a degree, have a salary of 15 thousand escudos”, he stressed .

For this reason, the union leader declares that the “shame is general”, taking into account that we are talking about a noble class that is being abandoned, having warned that they no longer accept “pretty or flowery” speeches.

“The fight will be until the end, from demonstration to strike, from strike to freezing of grades, we will not stop. We are here for a fight that we know we are absolutely right and we are motivated to do so, because when the shrimp sleeps, the water takes it away,” he said.

The union member says she feels “soul cleansed” by the massive participation of the class, which proves, in her opinion, that teachers also know how to do things well, which is why she is proud to belong to this class.

He appealed to the Minister of Education to resolve the situation of teachers because they will not stand still, warning that the issues resolved were just reclassifications which “is not a favor, but is the right of the class”.

For her part, Aleida Semedo, from the group of teachers who promoted this initiative, with the support of the unions, Sindprof and Siprofis, faced with the statement from the Minister of Education that he does not see the reasons for the strike despite respecting it, stated that the demands are all on your table.

Therefore, he hopes that the minister will soon contact the unions for negotiation, promising that if this does not happen, they will promote new forms of struggle.

In turn, teacher Ângela Lima explained the reasons for her joining, stating that the class has not received any respect, neither from the Ministry of Education nor from society itself, for those who educate today is a challenge, as Parents go to school to cause trouble when their children are reprimanded.

He also challenged the quality of education guaranteed by the Ministry of Education, as he questioned how it is possible to have quality in a class with 38 students.

The demonstration in Praia was concentrated in Praça Alexandre Albuquerque, ending near the Government Palace, where teachers were prevented by the National Police from getting any closer, which raised spirits, with the class clamoring for the presence of the Minister of Education.
