São Miguel: Residents of the Rabelados community believe in a “new era” with the investments they have received
This statement was made to the press today by resident Mariana Gomes, who spoke on behalf of the village’s residents at the inauguration of the access road to the community, the square and a children’s playground, highlighting that these infrastructures are an “added value” for the residents and everyone who wants to come forward to invest in the area.

According to this resident, in the past no one dreamed that this village would reach this level, but today, the inauguration of this road was something that “complemented” the happiness of this community, as she remembered that the access road, besides being narrow, was not very good. conditions for the circulation of vehicles and no sidewalks for pedestrians.

“This community was the poorest community in the municipality, but today it is not”, he said, justifying that investments in education, training and successive investments to improve the quality of life of residents, from access to water, energy electricity, among others, are proof that the locality is gradually developing.

At the inauguration, during his speech, the president of the São Miguel City Council, Herménio Fernandes, stated that this community is seeing the commitments made being carried out, considering each infrastructure inaugurated as a “stone placed for progress and community development.”

The mayor also recognized that the community today has nothing to do with what it was 7 years ago, adding that this is the result of investments in education, allowing the community today to have staff in different areas, but also investments in the availability of household water to all families, electricity, investment in housing, improved access, announcing new investments for the near future.

This access road, as considered by the mayor, is a modern access road, identical to those existing in the country’s main urban centers, that is, a paved road with parking, public lighting, road signage, paved pedestrian walkways and the playground for children, highlighting that it is also modern, in addition to having a space for leisure next door.

Herménio Fernandes also recognized that there are still many challenges to overcome, but these are commitments that the municipality and the Government will resolve, namely more investments in education and access to sanitary facilities.

For his part, the Minister of Tourism and Transport, Carlos Santos, recalled that the Tourism Fund was created in 2016, and the municipality of São Miguel is one of the few municipalities that managed to use the funds before the end of 2026. According to this
official , the decision to use this funding in the municipalities is a way of working towards the well-being of the population in the communities and this work is further proof of that.

In the area of tourism and the environment, he announced that the Government’s vision is clear, as it intends to take tourism to all parts of the country and this road, the square and the park, before being for tourists, is for the good of the community and will influence its development.

Therefore, he justified that communities in each municipality cannot be developed nor extreme poverty eliminated if investments are not made in all municipalities and localities.

To conclude, he considered that the Tourism Fund is a “success story”, guaranteeing that it will “continue to bring happiness” to Cape Verdeans, also reinforcing the Government’s commitment to continue working hand in hand with the municipal councils. .

These works were carried out by the city council, with funding from the Government of Cape Verde, through the Ministry of Tourism. The Week with Inforpress
