This section, which has the highest circulation of vehicles and people, was hit twice by the force of water, which caused substantial damage, and has been closed to traffic for more than a month and a half, waiting for normality to be restored.
Work restarted this week after a visit from a mission from Estradas de Cabo Verde (ECV) and could be reopened to traffic in the coming days.
Information on whether the issue of rainwater drainage will be resolved with the replacement is scarce because the company is prevented from providing any information to the press and it was not possible to obtain information from the president of Estradas de Cabo Verde during his visit to the island, despite several contacts.
A source from the Ministry of Infrastructure assured the information that in order to restore normality in the asphalting works of the access to the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros and the city’s roads, namely the police station, passing through Cruz dos Passos, Aguadinha, Xaguate to the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros, with a length of 3.5 kilometers, Cruz dos Passos/Santa Filomena/Congresso, with 1.2 kilometers, and Largo de Enacol/Congresso, with 1.4 kilometers, the damage caused by the rains, according to the survey of the company, is around 18 thousand contos.
The survey carried out by the company responsible for carrying out the works linked to Estradas de Cabo Verde requested around 40 thousand contos to repair the damage on the Piorno/Campanas de Cima section and another three thousand contos for the maintenance of national roads, including Cruz dos Passos/Santa Filomena, the value of the data provided by the company is around 60 thousand contos.
Following the damage caused by the rains, the Government declared a state of calamity for the municipalities of São Filipe and Santa Catarina (Fogo) and Brava in the global amount of 150 thousand contos assured through the Emergency Fund for repairs and restoration of normality.
To repair the damage caused on the Piorno/Campanas de Cima road section, the value announced in the declaration of the state of calamity is 24 thousand contos, but the company’s data points to a value of close to 40 thousand contos, almost the double that announced by the government.
