São Vicente: Community tourism project growing every day in Salamansa – Community association
The guarantee was given to Inforpress by the president of the Community Development Association of Salamansa (Djimily), Elvis Gomes, who sees this program, along with the ice-making plant, as one of the “most interesting” projects carried out in the fishing community, located eight kilometers from the city of Mindelo.
“It was the first form of tourism implemented in the community, thanks to the Djimily association and I believe it is going beautifully”, considered the same source, proving with data, for example, that at the beginning in April 2017, there were only three houses to receive tourists, a number that now reaches 12-15 homes.
This is because, the tourist modality implemented in Salamansa, as explained by the president of the association, works as follows: tourists arrive at the fishing village and are received at the residents’ homes, where they pay for their stay and part of the meal, and are also included The trip package included the rehabilitation of house facades, contributing to the beautification of the area.
An inter-aid, which has so far made it possible to tow and paint more than 150 homes.
“It’s a project that everyone benefits from, the accommodation staff, with the money for the room, breakfast and dinner, I myself also benefit from my commercial space that serves lunch and the community too because it gets more and more beautiful. , colorful and embellished”, he highlighted.
Therefore, Elvis Gomes sees this type of tourism as a long-lasting activity in Salamansa, so much so that it did not cease even with the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced it to stop, and now the recovery is being made with a “ good intensity.”
The same source also believes that the number of visitors speaks for itself when they must have already reached more than a thousand tourists in the six years of operation, in recent days they received the second group from this year 2023 and are awaiting, in November, the arrival of three more groups.
This demand was fulfilled through a partnership between Djimily and a tourist agency based in Paris, France, which has allowed tourists, mostly of French nationality or French-speaking European countries, to visit the “very peaceful” fishing village, where everyone knows everyone and with a very low crime rate”, highlighted Elvis Gomes.
On the other hand, he considered that this tourist project “very commendable and with no expiration date” gives the area “a new dynamic”, at a social, economic and even infrastructure level with the facades of the renovated houses.
