Africa-Press – Cape verde. The combination of geology and natural beauty makes the island of Santo Antão “ a truly spectacular destination ” for those who enjoy trekking and adventure, writes tourist agency Soltur.
According to this agency’s website, Santo Antão, with its “ imposing mountains, green valleys and dramatic coastline ”, attracts visitors and nature lovers “ in search of adventures and breathtaking views ”.
“Santo Antão is dominated by extinct volcanoes and many of its landscapes are the result of past volcanic activity. There are several notable geological formations on the island, including calderas, volcanic cones and ravines ,” the Soltur website further writes.
The same source highlights the crater of the Cova volcano, in the Eastern Planalto, as being “ one of the geological highlights of Santo Antão ”.
“ It is surrounded by high volcanic slopes and is home to lush vegetation, creating a spectacular setting ”, he highlights.
Santo Antão, which is currently experiencing peak tourism season, offers trekking (hiking on trails) as its main tourist product, offering a vast network of routes spread across six tourist routes, which connect the three municipalities.
Tour operators have, however, been warning of the need for municipalities to rehabilitate the trails, most of which were damaged after this year’s rains. The Week with Inforpress
