Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government is working to resolve the problems of teachers’ backlogs in 2024, so the new State Budget reserves around 100 thousand contos to resolve the dysfunctions in teachers’ careers.

The information was provided to Inforpress by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, stating that the process of reviewing the status of the teaching career is open and will begin in 2024, which, as a rule, implies a salary increase.

Olavo Correia assured that the Executive has a very strong package for teachers, aiming to eliminate noise in the relationship between teachers and the Government, as well as pending issues and statutes so that the parties can focus on the quality of the education system in Cape Verde.

At a global level, he said that, from 2016 to this point, the Government regularized the outstanding situation of more than 6,900 teachers worth more than 650,000 contos, “inherited” from the previous Government.

In the last seven years, he assured, the Government has greatly increased the salary bill in Cape Verde, with the increase of around 10 million contos in the global volume of the salary bill, through regulations on pending issues, promotions, reclassifications and an increase in the number of employees per year. level of public administration.

“This allowed us to regularize many pending issues, we increased remuneration for many social classes and we are still in the process of making changes to make this happen. It is also our objective, as a Government, to work so that there is no reduction in purchasing power and an effective reduction in income”, she explained.

The Minister of Finance maintained that his minister, as well as the entire Executive, works so that incomes can increase, so that people have a better life, both those who work, but also create conditions for those who are outside the labor market can have access to employment and hence income.

“We managed to do something that no other Government had done before in terms of the non-contributory social pension. Today we have around 26 thousand people covered. In the past we had more than three Cape Verdeans, who, despite meeting all the criteria set out in the law, did not have social pensions”, he highlighted.

Last year, he emphasized, this restriction was eliminated, so that, from now on, anyone who meets the requirements has an automatic social pension, as it is the first priority in preparing the Cape Verde State Budget.

He also highlighted the Government’s efforts to raise the minimum wage by around 17,000$00 by 2025, which, according to the governor’s calculations, symbolizes an increase of around 50% (percent) from 2016 to this point, at the same time as mentioned that work is being done to regularize precarious conditions in the public administration.
