Africa-Press – Cape verde. Fishermen from different fishing areas in the municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, will be supported by the local authority in fibering artisanal vessels and purchasing outboard engines.
Inforpress learned this Monday from the city council that artisanal fishing operators will continue to be supported in improving their vessels and purchasing engines with a view to improving fishing activity in the municipality of Porto Novo.
This year, nine boats were recovered and fibered as part of a project by the Fishermen’s Association and Porto Novo City Council, financed by the Ministry of the Sea, which aims to fiber all artisanal vessels in this municipality.
For the year 2024, the Porto Novo City Council intends to invest more than four thousand contos in fishing, with one of the planned actions being to support fishermen in modernizing their fishing equipment.
Local fishermen’s associations have been insisting on the need to invest in the creation of infrastructures to support fishing activities, highlighting the construction of a fishing pier in the city of Porto Novo and boat landings in the communities of Monte Trigo and Tarrafal.
