Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Teachers’ Union (Sindep) delivered today, to the Ministry of Education and the General Directorate of Labor, advance notice of a national strike scheduled for the 22nd and 23rd of this month, demanding a salary increase and fulfillment of promises by the Government by Ulisses Correia e Silva supported by MpD. The initiative also counts on the involvement of the other two unions in the sector (Siprofis and Sindprof) and the group of teachers who carried out the recent demonstration of protests throughout the islands of Cape Verde.
Speaking to Inforpress, the president of Sindep, Jorge Cardoso (in the photo), explained that the decision to strike was due to the guardianship’s failure to fulfill its commitments after several negotiations with the Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, and that “ they didn’t result in anything .”
This head of the most representative union of the national teaching class recalled that the Minister of Education assumed until October to present a schedule for resolving the pending issues, but that to date nothing has been resolved.
“The strike has to do with the non-compliance with the salary adjustment for the teaching class in accordance with inflation in 2023/2024 ”, said Jorge Cardoso, informing, on the other hand, that the strike covers teachers at all levels. national.
According to the same source, the demands, at this moment, cover the publication of the competition and the date of its completion in the Official Bulletin, the transition of teachers and graduates not in the teaching area, reclassification and subsidies for not reducing the workload from 2018 to this part.
It is worth noting that, at the time when the three unions delivered to the Ministry of Education and the General Directorate of Labor the advance notice of strike for the 22nd and 23rd of November across the country, the Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, was on a service mission abroad.
It should be remembered that teachers, at national level, held a demonstration on October 18th and promised at the time new forms of struggle if the Ministry of Education did not meet their demands: salary increase and resolution of all outstanding issues in the class.
