
Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Family and Social Inclusion stated today that the path taken and the results achieved encourage the Government to continue working to eliminate poverty and make Cape Verde an inclusive country.
Fernando Elísio Freire made these statements during his speech on the last day of the parliamentary debate of the first session of this month, having recalled that the Government has an ambitious goal of working to eradicate poverty in Cape Verde.
“ The incidence of poverty reduced from 35.2% in 2015 to 28.1% in 2022. A reduction of 7.1 percentage points compared to 2015. The estimate of absolute poverty for the second quarter of 2023, according to the Institute National Statistics, is 20%. Extreme poverty reduced from 22.6% in 2015 to 11.1% in 2022 ”, he indicated, noting that it had a drop of 11.5 percentage points compared to 2015.
According to the government official, the reduction of poverty and extreme poverty has been consistent and demonstrates the fairness of the policies implemented, ensuring that the reduction in poverty is also due to the focus on the most vulnerable and the high group that the Single Social Registry (CSU) allows to do.
He explained that at the moment, 58% of households and 66% of the population are registered in the Single Social Registry and is used in 13 social programs, highlighting that the creation of the Productive Inclusion Program, complementary to the Social Inclusion Income, provides beneficiaries with this income. a productive activity.
He highlighted the importance of creating the National Care Plan to benefit the elderly, children with disabilities, chronic or disabling illnesses and adults who suffer from permanent incapacity to carry out any income-generating activity, informing that at the moment 90 caregivers for the elderly and 501 child care providers.
He asserted that the house rehabilitation and access to toilet program aimed at poorer families through the plan to reinforce integrated support for families has currently benefited 3,518 families in vulnerable situations.
The minister also highlighted that within the scope of measures and policies, the Government invested in expanding and strengthening school social action in the 2022-2023 academic year, stating that 90,725 students are already being fed in school canteens, 7,640 students receiving school transport , scholarships to 3,635 students from group 1 and group 2 of the Single Social Registry.
He recognized that the system for evacuating patients under the non-contributory regime has been significantly improved, indicating that 601 patients and 237 companions are currently evacuated and that 26,000 elderly and vulnerable citizens are experiencing a clear improvement in access to medicines.
Fernando Elísio Freire also highlighted the free access for people with disabilities to all levels of education and higher education and professional training, mainstreaming of the gender equality approach in the planning system, budget and gender-sensitive policies, implementation of the fund support for victims, creation of the High Authority for Immigration.
On the other hand, he pointed out the generalization of vocational training for young people, an increase in non-contributory pensions, an increase in social protection coverage, the creation of a social electricity tariff, a social water tariff, declaring that these are the measures that have put Cabo Green to reduce poverty, combat inequalities.
“ Poverty is not a matter of statistics, because behind every poor person there are people, there are people with soul, with dreams, with desire and with ambition. These people can count on the Government, that together we will achieve this, together we will eliminate poverty, together we will make Cape Verde an inclusive country ”, she promised.
