PAICV says that the Government has no commitment to the personal and family development of Cape Verdeans

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The deputy of the Cape Verde African Independence Party (PAICV, opposition), Carla Carvalho, stated today, during the debate in the National Assembly, that with the current government there is no commitment to the personal and family development of Cape Verdeans, but yes, the promotion and perpetuation of poverty, the increase in social inequalities and dependence on the will of politicians and rulers in well-defined electoral moments.

The member of the PAICV Political Committee highlighted that the Social Inclusion Income worth 5 thousand escudos per month per household, consisting of an average of 5 people, is equivalent to 33 escudos per day and per person.

“ And here we ask the government and the MpD: is it possible for someone to live on 33 escudos a day in Cape Verde? ”, he questioned.

He added that the promotion of entrepreneurship and productive inclusion boils down to the delivery, complete with photographs and television reports, of a kit worth thirty thousand escudos, which includes a bag of potatoes, or a cake-making machine, or shovels and hammers, or thermal bags, in a public action “ as undignified as it is depressing and shameful for the nation ”.

As he highlighted, they warned the nation and Cape Verde’s development partners that the social policy that the current government is implementing does not combat poverty, does not promote people’s quality of life, much less social and economic development.

Use of aids to condition people

“ The government and the MpD are using international aid to condition people and obtain electoral dividends” , he highlighted.

With regard to the protection of children and adolescents, he highlighted that it is another fallacy. “ In a Welfare State, children have priority among public social policies. But this government destroyed everything it found; disinvested in ICCA, dismantled the reception centers found and the day centers operate very poorly ”, he pointed out.

Carla Carvalho also spoke about the elderly, which she characterized as being a forgotten class. “ Our elderly people, who live in poverty, are left to fend for themselves, waiting and despairing for the promises of this government ,” she added.

Fallacy to students and decapitalization of ICIEG

The parliamentarian stressed that another big fallacy of this government is to say that they are not leaving any student behind.

“ Free education is the mistake we know. They try to deceive Cape Verdeans with the banner of exemption from bribes ”, he pointed out. According to him, the country took a step back in the gains made in gender policies.

“ ICIEG is decapitalized. It took almost seven years to get the Victim Support Fund off the ground, but until now the victims are still waiting, lacking information and access channels ”, he explained.

Lack of housing and employment

He also said that thousands of families remain without decent housing, with roofs falling apart, without bathrooms, without living conditions, waiting for this government’s promises.

“It is becoming more evident every day that Cape Verdeans were deceived ”, he emphasized.

He denounced, on the other hand, that there is no consistent policy for creating jobs, empowering families, reducing social inequalities and, much less, eradicating poverty.

However, he stated, there are measures designed and designed to win the elections, as happened on the eve of the last legislative elections, and thus they are preparing, through the State Budget for 2024, for the local elections.

Vote buying and political marketing

“ Indeed, Cape Verde is experiencing dark times in which a government governs solely for electoral cycles. Times when a government and a party purposely confuse the concept of social policy with electoral and party politics ”, she emphasized.

Carvalho stated that the government’s speeches are no longer convincing, as the truth has already dispelled the lie, exposing a government and a party that inaugurated the “greatest state of vote buying and conscience in the history of this country ”, a government and a party that implemented the “ largest welfare state in the history of this country ”, a government and a party that produced the “ greatest propaganda and marketing state that this nation has ever known ”.

“ In fact, we can only talk about a country’s greatest social status when there is a government that creates decent jobs; where families can live with dignity, bring the pot to the boil, educate their children and care for their elderly. A welfare state is a state where the country belongs to everyone and for everyone and no one is left behind ,” she concluded.
