Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Culture said on Wednesday, 22, in Mindelo, that the Office to honor authors is located in Mindelo, showing the intention to distinguish other writers, in the near future, like Germano Almeida.
According to Abraão Vicente, who spoke at the end of the event that honored the Camões 2018 award, the idea that remains is that Writing has to be done in Mindelo, not in another place or on a different island each year.
“The Office is fixed in Mindelo because of the Marginal, because of the city’s design, the urbanity of the city and I believe that other authors that we can come to honor in Mindelo will also be proud to see their works transported, read, free, open to the world”, he considered.
According to Abraão Vicente, with the Office in honor of Germano Almeida, the city of Penafiel (in the district of Porto, Portugal) is connected to the city of Mindelo, because it was in this city in the north of Portugal that the tribute was paid in 2021 and helped to repeat it now, this year, on the island of São Vicente.
Regarding the honoree, the Minister of Culture considered that the result of Germano Almeida’s visit to schools and the appropriation of his work by other artistic forms is, without a doubt, a form of recognition that the writer has had what the Cape Verdean normal has.
“That’s what makes him extraordinary because he represents us with the same simplicity as an ordinary Cape Verdean when he’s on the big stage and when he’s anywhere”, he highlighted.
For the Mayor of Penafiel, Antonino Sousa, culture has an extraordinary potential for uniting, connecting and mobilizing people in the most diverse areas.
Therefore, he considered that with the creation of the Office, a “beautiful example” was given to the world of how through culture one can create “unbreakable bonds”.
“Penafiel will stay in Mindelo, because the silhouette of Germano in Laginha is a tribute to Germano, but it is also a landmark of rapprochement and signifies the connection of communities through culture”, he concluded.
