UCID asks the Government and unions for consideration to resolve teachers’ problems

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID) today asked the Government and the unions to consider so that they can reach an adequate solution and resolve the problem of teachers at a national level.

This request from João Luís comes following the teachers’ strike that began today and the meeting between the Ministry of Education and the unions also scheduled for this Wednesday.

“These are questions that come from a long time ago. Since practically the beginning of the year there has been a struggle between teachers and the Government, through the Ministry of Education, and until today they have not been able to reach a plausible understanding and teachers, like any other area of work, have this prerogative to appeal to measures that could culminate in the observation and restoration of their rights”, he maintained, arguing that these issues “should be resolved” and that they should “seek to maintain the stability of the class”.

For João Luís, the teaching class has been a little criticized, but it is a class that should be cherished by everyone because they have the dual function of training and educating men for the future.

“You must have some dignity when carrying out your role. We know that the country cannot give what it cannot, but this problem has been going on for a long time and the country has had access to resources and we do not understand why in the Ministry of Education there are people who have outstanding issues since 2011”, added the political.

According to the president of UCID, “the Ministry of Education has not given dignity to teachers”, remembering that “there are teachers who were hired and who have not yet been paid when there is an approved State Budget that runs until the end of December” .
