Africa-Press – Cape verde. The secretary general of the Movement for Democracy (MpD-poder), Luís Carlos Silva, said today that the President of the Republic ignores the considerable advances achieved by Cape Verde in 2023, mainly in the transport sector, with the recovery of TACV.
At a press conference in response to the New Year’s message delivered on Sunday 31st, by José Maria Neves, the MpD highlighted that the message was marked by an excessive focus on problems, ignoring, in its opinion, the country’s “undeniable” progress.
Luís Carlos Silva highlighted that the recovery of Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde, “which had been moribund” since 2016, represents a concrete example of this progress, as it is operating with two planes with the prospect of starting operations to Brazil and the United States soon.
By way of example, in the transport sector, we must point out that there is no setback. The accidents and shipwrecks that occurred during PAICV governance are no longer recorded. We have more frequency, greater regularity and better quality of service” he explained.
In the social sphere, he highlighted that the Government has made progress with investments of around 12 million contos annually, mainly in reducing extreme poverty, adding that, for the year that begins, it is expected to reinforce intervention capacity with 600 thousand contos from the “Fundo Mais” with the purpose of eradicating poverty.
“Regarding the call for dialogue, we have to say that this governance has been one of dialogue, open, frank, sincere, with truth and reality. The agreement reached with the health sector was thanks to this dialogue and will continue with other sectors, particularly the education sector”, he stressed, referring to the imperative challenges faced by the party.
Still part of the achievements, the secretary general recalled the third compact of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) translating into a greater capacity for mobilizing funds and investments, as well as the reduction of public debt from 160% to 110% “returning fundamental stability ” for the underlying economy and credibility.
At the European Union level, he referred to the financing of important projects such as the expansion of the ports of São Vicente, the Porto Novo pier in Santo Antão and Porto Inglés on the island of Maio, an energy plant in Santiago and the connection to the submarine cable, inter continents “Bella” reinforcing the strategic digital pillar.
Regarding the controversy over the “salary” of 310,606$00 paid for the services of the presidential house to Débora Carvalho, he defined it as “regrettable” since the highest position in the Nation is exposed to a situation that compromises his dignity and integrity as guardian of the constitution and the principle of legality.
