Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, recognized this Monday the need to improve inter-island transport services, adding, however, that in 2024 the country must take a significant step in relation to this issue.
The head of the Government spoke to journalists at the President’s Palace, after presenting New Year’s greetings to the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, who challenged the Government to speed up steps to resolve some problems, particularly that of transport.
“I want to believe that this year we will take a significant step forward regarding the issue of transport.
We have improved, we can and must improve even more because I know that there is still unmet demand, there is still a need to guarantee greater regularity, guarantee greater coverage of the islands, particularly the islands that are more exposed to the issue of a certain isolation, I am talking about Brava, of Saint Nicholas and May”, he said.
However, he added that the Government is working in the right direction, both in air and sea transport, to increase frequency and regularity.
“This is one of the areas where we must accelerate, under the conditions that exist and that we can achieve”, he admitted, adding that in terms of maritime transport there is a process for acquiring boats.
“The boats not only have to be sought after on the market and in some situations they have to be built, it will take time, but that is the idea and it will surely be implemented”, he guaranteed
In terms of air transport, he spoke about the introduction of the public service which, as he explained, will make it possible to define special conditions for certain islands that have a small population and low income and also need connectivity.
