Africa-Press – Cape verde. The session of the National Assembly today experienced a heated moment during the debate on internal security with strong exchanges between the PAICV parliamentary leader and the Minister of Internal Administration. At issue were João Baptista Pereira’s accusations of naming Rocha as the alleged defendant/criminal in the case of the shooting death, on the night of October 13, 2014, of Zezito Denti d’Oru.
In addition to deputy Celso Ribeiro, who described the PAICV parliamentary leader’s intervention as “dilinquent”, Paulo Rocha reacted vehemently, demanding that Baptista Pereira not leave parliament without proving that he was dismissed in the aforementioned process. João Baptista then read several excerpts from the court case that was allegedly archived, with the President of the Assembly taking the floor to ask for restraint in debts.
Paulo Rcoha returned to the charge, stating that “he was never accused” and warned that he would leave parliament with a free mind, but that the same did not happen with João Baptista Pereira. He replied, warning that, with Rocha’s statements, he had just been threatened, asking parliament to record in the minutes everything that the Minister of Internal Administration said. Faced with the debate, the President of the Assembly suspended the session, aiming to calm the heated spirits between the parties.
Work resumed around an hour later with a debate on the same case and Cape Verde’s internal security.
