Secretary of State cancels schedule in Cape Verde and returns a day early to Portugal

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Francisco André, returns to Portugal this Thursday, canceling the rest of the two-day visit to Cape Verde, which was supposed to continue on Friday, diplomatic sources announced.“Due to last minute unforeseen circumstances, the Secretary of State will have to leave today” and Friday’s agenda “is cancelled”, announced the Cape Verdean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a brief note, without further details.

The information was confirmed by a source at the Portuguese embassy in Praia, which was justified by “agenda reasons”.

Francisco André had planned visits to several projects within the scope of the Strategic Cooperation Program (PEC) 2022-26, celebrated between the two countries, and whose implementation deserved a positive assessment, from both sides, after a meeting today with his counterpart Miryan Vieira.

The PEC 2022-2026, worth 95 million euros, includes bilateral cooperation actions in several sectors, such as health, education, culture, language, social support, digital economy, climate risk mitigation and energy transition.

Despite there being legislative elections just around the corner in Portugal (on March 10), Francisco André was confident that the relationship would be “immune to political cycles” in both countries: “there has been a great investment in cooperation in recent years and not I have doubts that, whatever the political cycle, this cooperation will be maintained and deepened.”
