Africa-Press – Cape verde. This Thursday, the 25th, the Ildo Lobo Palace of Culture, in the city of Praia, hosts the show “Un konpuzitor, un legádu” by the group “Quarteto Ano Nobo + 1”. The show is produced by the production company Insulada in partnership with the Palácio da Cultura Ildo Lobo.
According to Insulada, the show will be a moment to remember the instrumentalist and composer Ano Nobo and there will be a moment where Cimboa will be addressed, through the musician Pascoal de São Domingos.
“We look forward to a night at the Ildos Lobo Palace of Culture, where, through various artistic forms, the name Ano Nobo will be the greatest reason and deserved celebration”, he emphasizes.
The same source says that the premiere of the show was in São Domingos, the land where Ano Nobo was born and where the “Quarteto Ano Nobo + 1” began its nationalization, having already received some invitations to shows abroad. As part of the Vinyl “Strings of São Domingos” they made a presentation in the Netherlands.
“In the first phase, they join the Ostinato Records label by invitation to record the vinyl: Strings of São Domingos, now focusing on their own production where, in addition to promoting the name of Ano Nobo, they always take Cimboa to shows, where Pascoal promotes the instrument”, he announces.
The “Quarteto Ano Nobo +1” is formed by Afrikano, Fany and Nono (children of Ano Nobo) + Quim di Nanda and Pascoal (disciples and followers since childhood, of the master), with the aim of praising and helping to spread awareness more and more the name of Ano Nobo, one of the essential composers of our music.
In addition to being a composer and performer, Ano Nobo’s name reaches a greater artistic and pedagogical dimension: He is involved in the area of theater, and in music on several fronts: in addition to traditional music, he also worked on religious music, and curiously it was that performed the Anthem of the Scouts of São Domingos.
As highlighted by Ano Nobo, he was an instrumentalist and composer, an area where he left more than 400 compositions, which over time were played by the most varied names in our music.
“But the name of Ano Nobo is linked to the unavoidable musical creation, and also to an entire educational process that made it his commitment to pass on the music and legacy to his followers. He started with his children, nephews and other neighbors who followed him as a teacher”, he indicates.
Ano Nobo’s children, having grown up in a musical environment, all learned to play string instruments, especially the guitar and the cavaquinho. The names of Fany, Afrikano and Nono have always been linked to the support of famous artists in our music such as: Cremilda Medina, Manel di Candinho, Solange Cesarovna, Zeca di Nha Reinalda etc.
However, the Nobo Year did not stop with the children. He taught many more instrumentalists. Two of them were Quim di Nanda and Pascoal – the master’s nephew and neighbor. Pascoal, in addition to being a guitarist, is the most famous name on the Cimboa, a typically Cape Verdean instrument. He has projects he developed to preserve the Cimboa and teach the instrument to the younger generation to prevent its extinction.
Thus, the five names presented: the sons of Ano Nobo: Nono, Afrikano and Fany and the disciples Quim di Nanda and Pascoal, already with immense experience on national and international stages, came together to play the compositions of master Ano Nobo.
