Africa-Press – Cape verde. The current municipal elected member of the Tarrafal Independent Movement (MIT) in the Tarrafal Municipal Assembly, Adelino da Silva, will be the candidate for the Tarrafal Municipal Council of this independent group in this year’s municipal elections.

Adelino da Silva, activist and professor who says he is willing to contribute to raising the level of engagement of Tarrafalenses with regard to political participation, led the MIT list for the Tarrafal Municipal Assembly, in the 2020 municipal elections.

To Inforpress, the politician said that his candidacy came following the withdrawal of Cláudio de Sousa, who headed the independent movement’s list for Tarrafal City Council in the 2020 local elections, and the support he has received from members of MIT and citizens. of this municipality in the interior of Santiago.

In this sense, he confirmed that the independent movement will repeat the candidacy of four years ago with the same name and symbol as MIT.

Adelino da Silva, who hopes to obtain the necessary signatures to be able to formalize his candidacy, by submitting lists to the court, promised to present the names and proposals in the coming months.

In Tarrafal, the current mayor, José dos Reis, has already confirmed his desire to continue leading the destinies of this municipality in the interior of Santiago, with the support of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition), while the Union Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean (UCID, opposition) will possibly not participate in this year’s local elections.

On the side of the Movement for Democracy (MpD, power), former mayor José Pedro Soares is identified as the potential head of the party’s list for this year’s local elections in Tarrafal.

Contacted by Inforpress, José Pedro Soares neither confirmed nor denied, limiting himself to saying that the party will announce the names of the candidates at the end of this month.

In Santiago Norte, with the exception of the mayor of Santa Cruz, Carlos Silva (PAICV), as well as José dos Reis, Tarrafal, from PAICV, the mayors Jassira Monteiro, Santa Catarina, Ângelo Vaz, São Salvador do Mundo, Carlos Vasconcelos, São Lourenço dos Órgãos, and Herménio Fernandes, São Miguel, all from MpD, have already shown their willingness to continue leading the destinies of their respective municipalities.
