Fogo acolhe no mês de Março a segunda reunião da Rede das Reservas Mundiais da Biosfera da CPLP

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Next March, the island of Fogo will host the second meeting of the Network of World Biosphere Reserves of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).

The information was released on Friday by the mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva, at the inauguration of the São Filipe Smart Tour project co-financed by the UNDP, through the “accelerator lab” and Associação Projecto Vitó, highlighting that it was scheduled to take place in late November and early December 2023, but was postponed to the first quarter of 2024.

“Next month (March) we will have a major international event on the island of Fogo about the CPLP Biosphere Reserves ”, said the mayor, highlighting that this is the second meeting of the CPLP World Biosphere Reserve Network and that the island do Fogo, which four years ago was declared, together with the island of Maio, a World Biosphere Reserve, will welcome representatives from the Community countries to discuss the issue of reserves and biodiversity, which demonstrates the sophistication that is being introduced into the territorial space of the island.

The first meeting of the CPLP World Biosphere Reserve Network was held in 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal, and the island of Fogo applied to host the second meeting and was selected to host the second meeting that will take place next March.

The meeting, remember, is being prepared in partnership with Projecto Vitó, the Portuguese non-governmental organization, Actuar, and the Fogo Biosphere Reserve, through the municipal councils so that it will be a “high moment” in which for a week the island will be the capital of issues linked to reserves, biodiversity, preservation, protection and the development process of CPLP reserves.
