Africa-Press – Cape verde. The current councilor for Local Economy at the Santa Catarina City Council, Jacinto Horta, confirmed today to Inforpress that he is the MpD candidate for the presidency of the council of that municipality in this year’s municipal elections.
According to the 47-year-old politician, despite this “favoritism” in the survey carried out by the Movement for Democracy (MpD, power), and whose name was confirmed by the members of the party’s National Political Commission (CPN) who met at the end over the weekend, he noted that the process is following normal procedures until confirmation by the party in the coming days.
On the occasion, the career professor stated that he is prepared to head the MpD list to the Santa Catarina City Council if the party led by Ulisses Correia e Silva so understands.
However, a source close to the party confirmed to Inforpress that Jacinto Landim Horta has always been the preferred candidate of the majority of MpD activists and leaders at local and national level, despite the current mayor Jassira Monteiro having expressed her willingness to continue at the helm of the destinations of this Santiago municipality.
The same source also said that the current councilor without portfolios in the Santa Catarina City Council, Félix Cardoso, would give up his candidacy as an independent if Jassira Monteiro was the MpD’s choice, which did not happen.
Hence, he added, everything indicates that he will run, for the second time, for the presidency of the chamber of this municipality in the interior of Santiago.
As for the African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition), according to a party source in February, current deputy Armindo Freitas will once again be the party’s candidate for Santa Catarina City Council in this year’s local elections. .
Inforpress knows that Jassira Monteiro, who is the only woman to lead a chamber in the country, has not yet received any official notification from the party, which is why she will only speak to the press after this formal communication.
With the exception of Jassira Monteiro, the other MpD mayors are once again the party’s bet in this year’s local elections, especially Ângelo Vaz (São Salvador do Mundo), Carlos Vasconcelos (São Lourenço dos Órgãos) and Herménio Fernandes (São Miguel).
On the PAICV side, everything indicates that mayors José dos Reis (Tarrafal) and Carlos Silva (Santa Cruz), who have already shown their willingness to continue leading the destinies of their respective municipalities, will be the choice of the party led by Rui Semedo.
