MNE envisages all diplomatic representations with at least head of mission and diplomat

Africa-Press – Cape verde. All diplomatic representations in the country will now have at least one diplomat and one head of mission on staff. This statement was made this Friday, in Praia, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, Rui Figueiredo Soares, during the inauguration ceremony of Domingos Mascarenhas as Cape Verde’s ambassador to Ethiopia.

Rui Figueiredo declares that the reopening of the embassy in Ethiopia is due to the prominence that the African Union has been gaining on the world political scene.

“In the presidential diploma that enshrines the reopening, two main reasons are presented for this reactivation. Firstly, the fact that Africa, our continent, through the African Union, is gaining more and more space and prominence in the global geopolitical [field] (…). Secondly, because the aforementioned challenges and opportunities challenge Cape Verdean diplomacy to be more intervening in the decision-making process of the African Union, which requires an effective presence of our foreign policy with that organization”, he highlighted.

Domingos Mascarenhas guarantees Cape Verde’s constant presence with the African Union.

With regard to Ethiopia, he considers the country to be Africa’s second demographic power and one of the continent’s strongest economies. The objective, he explained during the inauguration, is to strengthen relations between the countries “prioritizing the air transport sector, taking into account its excellence in this field”.

“All the actions of the embassy and the permanent mission will aim to bring the best of Africa to Cape Verde and bring the best of Cape Verde to Africa”, he noted.

Domingos Mascarenhas is a career Ambassador and has held various roles for the State of Cape Verde, such as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of Cape Verde to Angola and Brazil. He was until recently Special Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration.
