Boa Vista: PAICV and MpD with divergent positions on the chamber's activity report in 2023

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The MpD bench (opposition) in the Boa Vista Municipal Assembly made a negative assessment of the council’s activity report, in 2023, “a pile of nothing”, and the PAICV, which leads the municipality, considers that it “mirrors all achievements”.

These assessments were made to the press by municipal elected representatives from the benches of the Movement for Democracy (MpD) and the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), regarding the activity report of the Boa Vista Municipal Council for the year 2023 , considered in the first ordinary session of the year of the Municipal Assembly.

According to MpD deputy Vicente Silva, the party’s municipal bench made an assessment in accordance with the report presented with the projects that the chamber designated during the mandate for the year 2023, considering it “a pile of nothing”.

“The council boasts about the cancellation and we are worried because we want small works that do make a difference, but we have been waiting for almost four years of the mandate for the council to actually carry out structural works for Boa Vista”, he noted , considering that the city council “does not have the capacity to do it”, even though the report reflects this, and a council team that puts the blame on others.

According to the elected municipal MpD, the legislation is clear that the municipal domain belongs to the chamber, and in the case of president Cláudio Mendonça.

For Vicente Silva, during the Municipal Assembly session it seemed like he was in the National Assembly, justified by the lack of arguments from the president of the Boa Vista City Council, Cláudio Mendonça, and the PAICV bench, who took refuge in accusations and blaming the Government for the failure to carry out municipal works and projects.

“The objective of the MpD bench’s assessment is precisely to make and demonstrate to the city council team the need to concentrate on Boa Vista and use partners to bring work and services to the island”, he said, warning that “large numbers of trips from Boa-Vistense mayor”, but who “does not see tangible work” for the island”.

According to the MpD deputy, the report contains a graph that indicates 55 percent (%) of works in Sal Rei, which is why he asks about works and in other towns, in areas like Rabil where they see that there are places where people still walk in areas without paving, and, therefore, consider that there is the possibility of distributing paving equally to other villages.

For her part, the municipal elected member of the PAICV bench Gilda Marques noted that the activity report “mirrors all the activities of the achievements” and with a focus on the year 2023.

“It has not been easy to carry out works when there is a Government that does not support the current council management, but I believe that the council is doing its job, which has not been easy”, criticized the same source.

Gilda Marques also considered that with the resources that the city council currently has, it has been able to respond to many situations, especially families who constantly ask for urgent interventions.

“It is in this sense that this plan reports a little of the activities carried out”, stated the elected member of the party that supports the chamber.

According to Gilda Marques, the current council management has a “human face” and is concerned with the population, with the fragile conditions that families are experiencing in Boa Vista, which is why she demonstrated confidence that they will continue to be aligned with the maximum that it is possible to put Boa Vista “at a desired growth rate”.
