Inauguration of the Technology Park scheduled for 2025 with 100 percent operation - president

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The inauguration of the Technology Park, currently operating with 14 companies, is scheduled for the beginning of 2025, when it is expected to be 100% operational, as stated today by the president of the board of directors.

Carlos Monteiro was speaking to the press at the end of the visit by the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries and Minister of the Sea, Abraão Vicente, who had the opportunity to learn about and highlight the importance of the Technological Park project for the country’s development.

“It has been announced that it will probably be at the beginning of 2025, we are now at 95% of the works, finishing work is still missing. We are trying to complete our last building, which is our conference center, but the grand opening will certainly be held in January 2025”, said Carlos Monteiro.

But, he recalled, the Technology Park is already operating, currently with 14 companies from six nationalities operating, namely Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Cape Verde.

“As we complete different phases, we will operationalize, but at the moment we already have three buildings in operation and we are now completing two buildings to start 100% operation”, he added, revealing that the intention is that for the inauguration the Technological Park is operating “alive, that is, at 100%”, including green spaces.

This, according to him, is to get the “maximum benefit” from this “major investment” by the State of Cape Verde, with the capacity to house 40 to 50 companies, depending on the size.

“This year’s priority is to complete works, especially the external space, form partnerships, have more companies, bring more events, international partnerships”, he highlighted.

On the other hand, the president of the board of directors stated that within the project there is a concern that the Technological Park should not be an oasis in the area where it is located, Achada Grande Frente, which is why they also intend to cover surrounding neighborhoods with social actions.

“For example, part of the road that goes down to Jamaica was built as part of the Teck Park project and we want to integrate the community so that it is uniform with the entire surrounding area. We are also going to build a daycare center, not only for the children of Teck Park workers, but also to serve children from these neighborhoods”, he said.

According to him, Teck Park has five components, a Data Center, an incubation center for youth programs, spaces for companies, training and certification space and a conference center.

“Our training and certification center is, from our point of view, the heart of Cape Verde’s digital strategy because we want to have a strong digital economy and for that we need better prepared resources”, explained Carlos Monteiro.

The works for the installation of the Technological Park, in the city of Praia, were supposed to be completed in the first quarter of 2023, but due to the global crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic and the war motivated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the delay in completion, as previously justified by Carlos Monteiro.

This investment is valued at around 35 million Euros, financed by the African Development Bank (ADB), plus a counterpart from the State of Cape Verde of around 4 million Euros.
