Africa-Press – Cape verde. On Monday, the Government launches construction work on the Photovoltaic Solar Park on the island of São Vicente, one of the projects with which the archipelago wants to reach 30% of electricity from renewable sources by 2026.
The Government intends to give a boost to solar production: on Monday the park on the island of São Vicente will be launched, along with works on the islands of Boa Vista and Sal, with a combined capacity of 15 MW – in addition to 10 MW in the capital Praia, Santiago island.
Smaller solar parks will be installed on the islands of Santo Antão, Fogo, Maio, São Nicolau and Brava, according to the executive’s plan.
In terms of wind energy, Cabeólica, a public-private partnership, will increase its production capacity from the current 11 MW to 24 MW in the Praia park, thanks to an expansion project whose work should begin within the next four months.
According to the goals announced by the Government, Cape Verde intends to reach 30% of electrical energy production from renewable sources by 2026, exceed 50% by 2030 and reach almost 100% in 2040.
