Cape Verde implements Migration Observatory aimed at producing and analyzing statistical data relating to migration

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government launched this Friday, 10th, in the city of Praia, the Migration Observatory, a platform that aims to produce and analyze statistical data regarding migrations, highlighted the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

According to Miryam Vieira, the website, in addition to allowing the promotion of scientific research and studies, will be an important tool for analyzing and assigning statistical data on “major migration issues”.

“For Cape Verde, a diasporic nation of immigration and transit, it is important to have this technical structure that will monitor migration trends in the country and make recommendations so that the Government can take more assertive measures regarding migration” , Miryam Vieira.

He further explained that the objective is to monitor migration flows, the number of immigrants in Cape Verde and emigrants, ensuring, equally, that these are instruments that will help manage and have good governance in matters of migration.

“ We already have some statistical data regarding migration data and, in the future, with the production of more studies that will be carried out in partnership with international institutions, they will provide some clues for improving instruments in matters of immigration and migration in Cape Verde ”.

The creation of the platform is also justified by the need for reconciliation, as pointed out by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, due to the importance that communities have represented throughout the economic, social, political and cultural history of Cape Verde.

Aiming to implement the Migration Observatory, the event also saw the signing of a cooperation protocol between the High Authority for Immigration, the Directorate-General for Consular Affairs and the Directorate-General for Communities.

In this sense, the president of the High Authority for Immigration, Carmem Barros, welcomed the signing of the protocol, given its importance for the implementation of the Migration Observatory.

This event is part of the conference “Immigration in Cape Verde: Cooperation and partnerships in promoting the integration of immigrants” held today, May 10th.
