Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Gamboa Festival recorded record sales, bringing “great satisfaction” to traders who, however, complained about the closure of the stalls by the police before the end of the event.
This episode, according to Inforpress sources, caused frustration among sellers who hoped to take advantage of the public flow until the end of the event.
Nina Fernandes, who expressed her dissatisfaction with the police action, stated, on the other hand, that this was the “best year” in terms of sales.
“We know that every year is different, but I hope that next year we can surpass this one, and I’m really happy with the sales”, he highlighted, reinforcing that he sold more than usual.
Kleini Silva also showed equal indignation, claiming that around 9:00 the stalls were being closed when the festival continued until after 11:00.
“Sales went very well, our only complaint was that the police closed the stalls with shows still taking place. People still enjoying themselves, we were forced to close the stalls by the police”, reported Kleini Silva.
Sandy Borges also shared his frustration, highlighting that, although sales were “great”, the early closure of the stalls harmed traders who must pay 10 thousand escudos plus electricity to sell in Gamboa.
“The police came to close the stalls while the festival was still going on, in a greater lack of respect and empathy. They had no reason to do that, as we paid for the stalls and should enjoy it until there is still a public consuming,” said Sandy Borges.
Despite these setbacks, she praised the security at the event, which contributed to a calm and safe environment.
In reaction, the president of Praia City Council, Francisco Carvalho, said he believed that the closure of the tents was a measure taken in favor of public safety.
“There are things that we have to check later, but the police have a logic of action. I am sure that the police did not act willy-nilly. There is a direct relationship between a certain amount of time together and the increase in insecurity. And work of the police is scientific, therefore, there comes a time when, for security and stability issues, the police take a certain type of intervention”, explained the mayor.
