Africa-Press – Cape verde. This Monday, the Cape Verdean President lamented the death of his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, in a helicopter accident, on Sunday, hoping that “there is no pretext” for the worsening of the conflict scenario in the Middle East.

“ We are sending a note of condolence to the Government and the Iranian people for the loss of the President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, which we deeply regret. We hope that there is no pretext for the deepening of the conflict that exists in that region ”, said José Maria Neves, in statements to Rádio de Cabo Verde, made during a visit to Portugal.

The Cape Verdean head of state said he hoped “ that this death will serve to create new opportunities for peace ”.

“We dramatically need peace in that region, a negotiated solution to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine and that entire region, which is very troubled ,” he added.

“ I hope that this death, which we deeply regret, opens the way for negotiation, for the search for peace and for there to be much more stability in that region ”, he concluded.

Iranian rescue teams today recovered the remains of Ebrahim Raisi and eight other passengers who were on the helicopter that crashed on Sunday in northwestern Iran, the Red Crescent humanitarian organization announced.

The helicopter that was also carrying the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, crashed in the area of ​​Kalibar and Warzghan, in the province of East Azerbaijan, in the northwest of the country.

The Iranian government confirmed Raisi’s death, adding that the disaster will not cause “any disturbance in the administration” of the country.
