Boa Vista: First day of São João festivities marked by “good music and lots of food”

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The first day of São João festivities, on the island of Boa Vista, took place on Sunday, with central activities celebrated in João Galego, from drummers, popular dinner, dancing and performances by artists and musical groups.

The celebrations of São João, patron saint of the North of Boa Vista, are spread across the three villages, Fundo das Figueiras, João Galego and Cabeça dos Tarrafes.

The first day of the festivities was in charge of the João Galego Festival Committee, which treated those present with a dawn and a parade of drummers, the traditional popular dinner, performances by dance groups, artists and musical groups such as Pedro Magala, PCC, and Ay Key 2.

One of the highlights of the night was the expected popular dinner, where everyone is served dishes such as cachupa and “botchada”, a tradition that dates back around 20 years, according to the member of the São João Festival Committee in João Galego, Aeneid.

This dinner is possible thanks to the support of partners, the Boa Vista City Council, help from emigrants, and does not leave out the offers from farmers in the villages, added Eneida who says they have open hands because there are always vegetables left that participants can take.

The same source also indicated that the general budget proposed for this year was 950 contos, but that “it won’t get there”. Therefore, they hope that in the end the balance will be positive as they have a lot of expenses, as this year, in addition to musicians from the island, they “dared to take a risk” and bring PCC from Praia and Ay Tecla 2 from Sal.

For Marisia, who traveled from Sal Rei to participate in the party in her hometown, João Galego, the party and the organization were “good”, the popular dinner went “well”, there was plenty of food for everyone, the music and the environment were “good”.

But he stressed that “we need more unity among the villages, for the organizations to be together, for one party to be the other’s”.

As for the musical attractions, Marisia considered that Pedro Magala’s performance was a good moment, which is a great reference, that Ay Tecla 2 excited the public, and the PCC, which was the most anticipated of the young people, made them vibrate.

That same day, the end of the Inter Povoações Tournament took place in Fundo das Figueiras, from which the Bofareira team emerged victorious, and later that night the artist Kino Cabral performed at a private party.
