“Mar d'Canal” does not yet have a license – guarantees IMP

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Contrary to what has been said, the ship “Mar d’Canal” does not have a temporary license to operate. The Maritime and Port Institute (IMP) assured that the “Nôs Ferry Mar d’Canal” should sail again, but only with the licensing of the National Directorate for Maritime Policy, which is currently the competent authority.

According to the IMP “it is not true that Naviera Armas has a temporary license for inter-island maritime transport of cargo, passengers and mixed cargo”. Joana Carvalho assured that the company was notified before that, but no response was received from the company in its defense.

Then, as can be read in the note, on June 04, 2021, the Directorate of Maritime Security Services of the IMP (DSSM) received a request from Naviera Armas for its registration as a national shipping company.

In response to this request, DSSM informed the company of the legal requirements for registration as a shipping company, and that according to Ordinance No. central service of the Ministry of the Sea.

According to the note from the IMP, the company was once again reminded of the need for this legal procedure, including when the navigability certificate was issued last Friday, 04.

The president of the Institute also indicated that the ship “Nôs Ferry Mar D’Canal”, as it is now called, is the first passenger ship to be certified in accordance with the new legislation in force and “will necessarily have to comply with its dictates” .
