Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic (PR) promised on Thursday to exercise his magistracy of influence to help the Municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago in the construction of a new building of the Municipality.
“I made a commitment to support the city council in the mobilization of resources for the construction of the City Hall,” José Maria Neves, who began a three-day visit to the Municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago, told reporters on Thursday.
For the head of state, the first municipality of Cape Verde deserves a building that dignifies the municipality and values the Old Town as a World Heritage Site.
On this issue, the mayor of Ribeira Grande, Nelson Moreira, admitted that the headquarters building of the municipality no longer responds to the current demand, taking into account the size and services provided by the municipality.
“We deserved a space with dignity, which better represents the name of Ribeira Grande de Santiago,” noted the aedile, who reported that the municipality will use the magistracy of influence of the President of the Republic for the construction of the new City Hall.
The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, makes from today on Saturday, 20, a visit to the municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago with issues of valorization and preservation of the Historical Heritage in the agenda.
This trip falls within the actions of the Head of State as Champion of the African Union for the Preservation of the Natural and Cultural Heritage of Africa and the Patron of the Ocean Alliance.
On Thursday morning, the President of the Republic made a courtesy visit to the mayor, who preceded a meeting with the chamber team and a guided tour of the seafront and the main historical monuments of the World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The second day of the visit of the head of state to Ribeira Grande de Santiago begins through the town of São Martinho Grande, with visits to the municipal stadium and urban requalification works, following a visit to the communities of Gouveia and Porto Mosquito, for contacts with associations of fishmongers and fishermen, and visits to some works and environmental preservation projects.
On the last day of the visit, José Maria Neves will move to the high areas of the municipality, the São João Baptist basin, passing through the communities of Santana, Tronco, Pico Leão and Belém, and the community of Chã de Igreja.
On the same day, the President of the Republic presides over the inauguration ceremony of the requalification works of Salineiro.
