Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Tourism, Carlos Santos, called Saturday the village of Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, Porto Novo, Santo Antão, as being “one of the pearls” of Cape Verde in regard to the tourist attraction it concerns.
Carlos Santos, who was speaking of the presentation of the results of the project of tourist and environmental valorization of the villages of Monte Trigo and Tarrafal, explained that the interventions made so far, in an amount of 22,000 escudos, aims to precisely qualify these localities with great tourist potential.
This project, funded by the Government, has the purpose of “preparing the two places to welcome tourists,” explained the governor, for whom these villages already have special conditions to welcome visitors by themselves.
According to the minister, the tourist and environmental valorization of Tarrafal and Monte Trigo is part of an integrated program of development of these two fishing zones, around 340,000 contos.
Housing is also being improved in these rural villages under this programme, which also provides for the creation of a tourist information office in the Tarrafal area.
The tourism and environmental valorization program of rural villages aims to diversify the tourism offer, improve basic sanitation and increase income and quality of life of the population in rural areas.
