Porto Novo: Immigrant based in the Netherlands promises to continue helping the town of Martiene

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The town of Martiene, in the municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, will continue to count on the collaboration of the emigrant José Monteiro, better known as Djosinha, in carrying out projects linked to the development of the area.

This is guaranteed by the emigrant himself, who has lived in the Netherlands for over 30 years. In statements to the magazine “Porto Novo”, recently launched by the local authority, he promised to continue participating in the development process of Martiene, one of the main agricultural valleys in this municipality.

After having supported farmers in the supply of water for irrigation and having contributed to the construction of the section of road that enters this valley, this emigrant said that he is making efforts to build a small square in Martiene, which will serve as a leisure space in the area.

José Monteiro said that he already has a space available to build the square, which could happen “within a short time” in partnership with the Porto Novo City Council.

Djosinha told the magazine “Porto Novo” that he was ready to help the place where he was born, an area that, in his opinion, has “great potential” in agriculture.

The Martiene Valley, where the thousand-foot pest does not yet exist, is one of the largest producers of common potatoes on the island of Santo Antão, with a production of around one thousand tons per year.
