Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves believes that the visit of his Angolan counterpart to the country takes place in a “pragmatic perspective”, in order to strengthen the “economic and business pillar” between the two countries.

“There is an enormous will between the two states in the sense that businessmen from both countries can develop their businesses, establish partnerships and take advantage of the opportunities that exist”, said José Maria Neves, after meeting with the Angolan president, João Lourenço.

Creating the conditions for greater circulation of people and goods between Angola and Cape Verde and working towards the integration of the respective communities are other objectives of this meeting.

José Maria Neves also advanced that because Angola presides over the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) it could help to strengthen the “pillar of economic and business cooperation” between the nine States that make up the community.

“The agreement that was signed during the presidency of Cape Verde for the mobility of people will help in these relations, and we must do everything so that Cape Verde and Angola can also strengthen relations in this area”, he recommended, believing that the two Governments they will seek instruments and tools to implement a set of actions that were being negotiated.

“Make up for lost time”

For his part, the President of Angola, João Lourenço, said that this visit demonstrates that the two countries want to “make up for lost time”, recalling that the Bilateral Joint Commission had not met for 14 years and “has just done so for two days. ”.

“Therefore, this is a sign, and, as a result of that same meeting, we are going to sign today four important cooperation instruments, especially in the field of air and maritime transport”, he highlighted.

In addition to these sectors, the Angolan head of state considered that his country has “a lot to gain” if it cooperates with Cabo Verde in tourism, commerce and public administration, “for being a success story in this field”, and in matter of municipal power.

“Angola has not yet constituted the municipal power, this will certainly happen soon, and we certainly have a lot to learn from Cape Verde. We are modest enough to recognize that it is here and in other countries that we must seek knowledge and experience”, he explained.

mobility agreement

On the other hand, he pointed out that the mobility agreement will “greatly facilitate” a “greater rapprochement” between the two countries, and guaranteed that both parties are willing to reach the desired levels of friendship and cooperation.

On a visit to Cape Verde, the Angolan president received the keys to the city at the City Hall of Praia, visited the Amílcar Cabral Foundation and laid a wreath at the Amílcar Cabral Memorial. João Lourenço also goes to the island of São Vicente.
