The Deputy of the Movement for Democracy (MpD), Emanuel Barbosa presented this Sunday, 13, his candidacy for the position of coordinator of the MpD-PT, in Lisbon. Candidate for his succession, Barbosa now speaks of a party “stronger, cohesive and close to the community, to face new challenges and engage in new struggles”.
In the act of presenting his candidacy in Cova da Moura, an emblematic neighborhood of the Cape Verdean community residing in Portugal, Emanuel Barbosa justified his re-candidacy, understanding that “in this troubled phase that Cape Verde is experiencing, a stronger, more cohesive party is needed. , closer to the community, to be able to face new challenges and engage in new battles”.
In his speech, the National Deputy advanced that “the MpD-PT cannot be given over to amateurism, irresponsibility and unclear strategies and purposes; neither can it be held hostage to underground and systemic games, nor can it have a manageable and remote-guided leadership”, reiterating that the Party “needs a strong leadership, engaged with the community and with the ability to mobilize militancy and the base of support”. .
Defending that the “center of party activity” must “continue to be militancy and the base of support”, the candidate for his succession promises a “direct consultation” of the Cape Verdean community spread across Portugal – “We want a party of proximity, with people and for people”.
Confident in the “wins” of 2026
Confident in his re-election and a new wave of victory for Ventoinhas in 2026, he guarantees that “only with maturity, pragmatism, responsibility, rationality and abnegation, will we be able to renew popular confidence in 2026, and resume the cycle of victories of 2016, in Portugal, in the Diaspora and in the Archipelago”.
Considering that MpD came from a “very complex political context, marked by the global crisis and an internal situation in Cape Verde, which places new demands on us”, the candidate criticized the national leadership of the Party and the Government, considering that “they have to know how to communicate, with rigor, a sense of responsibility, transparency and with due assertiveness”.
In the party’s internal elections scheduled for April 3, Emanuel Barbosa hopes to have the confidence of all MpD militants renewed.
