Africa-Press – Cape verde. José dos Reis also defined as a goal for this second term to make Tarrafal an increasingly active, dynamic and bold municipality, and one of the most developed municipalities in Cape Verde and on the island of Santiago.

José dos Reis was speaking to the press, moments before the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected members of the Tarrafal Municipal Council and Assembly, for the 2024-2028 term, which took place at Largo Santo Amaro and was witnessed by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Energy, Alexandre Monteiro.

“This will be a term of hard work and continuity of what has been the dynamic development of our municipality. Over the past four years, Tarrafal has shown that development is possible, but there are still challenges that we have to overcome”, declared the politician from Tarrafal.

“This will be a term of continuity of projects and strengthening of the partnership that has been established at the municipal level with the Government of Cape Verde and other partners, especially the private sector and our emigrants”, he added.

Regarding the projects to be implemented during the 2024-2028 term, he highlighted the creation of a pedestrian street for commerce, culture and leisure, and the redevelopment of the historic centre of the city of Mangue. José dos Reis also defined the goal of this second term as making Tarrafal an increasingly active, dynamic and bold municipality, and one of the most developed municipalities in Cape Verde and on the island of Santiago. The mayor of Tarrafal also promised to work to establish Tarrafal as a land of culture and traditions, to live up to the motto that Tarrafal is a municipality of sports and champions, to make Tarrafal a hub for agriculture and livestock and a municipality that is pro-youth and for families. In front of several people who witnessed the event, José dos Reis promised to govern with proximity and affection, and to do everything possible to honour the trust and produce development results that will make all Tarrafal residents and immigrants proud. In turn, Minister Alexandre Monteiro, representing the Government, said that the recent elections had reaffirmed the “maturity” of Cape Verdean voters.

On the occasion, the minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to continue working with the team elected in Tarrafal and in all other municipalities in the country, and to continue to be an essential partner, especially in actions and activities that aim to improve the quality of life of the population.

The PAICV beat the MpD by a margin of 2,277 votes in the elections for the municipal council (winning all seven mandates) and by 2,190 votes for the Municipal Assembly (AM), electing 13 of the 17 deputies, including the re-elected president of this deliberative body, Adilson Costa.
