Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cabo Verde has managed, in the last four years of severe drought, to increase water coverage from 66% to values above 75% and coverage in terms of sanitation by 38% to values very close to 45%.

This information was announced by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANAS), Carlos Santos, in a statement to the press, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the workshop to prepare for the United Nations Survey on Analysis and Evaluation of World Sanitation and Drinking Water (GLASS), held in Praia City.

According to this responsible, it is intended with this initiative to collect the data, the compatibilization of the data, so that national and international institutions can have coherent and basic data, which can serve to analyze the progress made in the governance of the water and sanitation sector, to make assessment of training in terms of human resources for the implementation of the essential projects on water development and sanitation.

Asked about Cabo Verde’s water governance and sanitation situation, the President of ANAS said that in the last four years the country has been affected by severe drought, which has caused a gradual reduction in recent years in terms of the amount of water mobilized underground.
