Government wants to empower poorer families to fight trafficking in persons, Lidia Lima

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government said on Thursday it was having a very strong intervention in policies related to trafficking in persons, especially at the social level, in order to empower the poorest families in the face of vulnerability.

The Secretary of State for Social Inclusion gave this assurance at the end of the extended meeting of the Observatory for Monitoring and Rapid Identification of Situations of Trafficking in Persons members, held in the last three days in the City of Praia, where she considered the Executive’s efforts to eradicate extreme poverty and reduce absolute poverty.

Lidia Lima said that trafficking in persons “often has purposes such as sexual exploitation, but also labour exploitation, drug trafficking and other problems, and has been affecting people worldwide who are in illegal emigration situations and who are at risk of being exploited by these criminal traffickers.”

Lima warned that “having people in vulnerable situations is a condition to expose them in danger of trafficking,” which is why the Ministry of the Family is “working together” with other Government departments, so that the measures implemented, also by the Ministry of Justice, meet social policies.
