Africa-Press – Cape verde. CV Interilhas announced this Monday, 21st, that trips on the Sotavento Line, which connects the islands of Santiago, Fogo, Brava and Maio, have been cancelled following the accident with the ship Liberdadi.
According to the company’s statement, at this time there is no possibility of using another ship in “lay up”, since the Kriola is undergoing maintenance, in order to obtain the required safety and seaworthiness certificates.
CV Interilhas ensures that it is considering all possibilities to find alternatives that allow inter-island connections to be resumed as quickly as possible and with the appropriate safety conditions.
“We are working on evaluating alternatives that will mitigate the impact of this situation and ensure that the service is resumed as quickly and safely as possible,” the note says.
However, the company has not yet announced a date for restoring connections, promising to inform the public as soon as there are concrete developments.
Remembering that, yesterday, the ship Liberdadi ran aground at the Praia pier after a failure in one of the generators. As explained by CV Interilhas board member Aniceto Soares, during the journey, still at sea, the crew identified a fault on the ship that would make it impossible to continue the journey safely. It was then decided to return to the port of Praia.
“When we arrived at the port of Praia, we had a loss due to a generator, a generator failure. We had a generator failure and lost control of the main engine. Then the ship sank in this area of rocks,” reported the officer.
