Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Municipality of Praia (CMP) inaugurated this Saturday, 19, an exhibition and craft fair, with the participation of 45 artisans to honor these creators on the World Artisan Day, marked on this day.
In addition to marking the anniversary, the CMP Culture Councilor, Jorge Garcia, explained that the windows in Paços do Concelho and Praça Alexandre Albuquerque, until the 31st of this month, aim to honor the class and create some dynamism in economic terms.
“The whole class has faced many difficulties, however, at this time when the pandemic is slowly emerging, it is necessary for the authorities and policy makers to take measures precisely to help them increase their income”, he explained in a statement. interview with Inforpress.
Among the gifts, there are 17 exhibitors who exhibit their work in the Town Hall’s Town Hall, plus 28 exhibiting at the handicraft fair in Praça Alexandre Albuquerque, with diverse work, from dolls, jewelry, basketry, earth cloth, among others.
“It is a significant number of artisans, and this shows the dynamics of our craftsmanship. What artisans really need is more spaces to display their products, a claim they always make, and in this sense CMP is working to provide more spaces to sell their products”, considered Jorge Garcia.
The councilor for Culture also spoke of the possibility of providing a space on the upper floor of the Platô market for artisans to permanently exhibit their work, as part of the dynamics of cruise tourism. Expectant, exhibitors expect to receive many visitors to present their works to the public, sell them, and be able to take some income home.
